AIM- to determine the concentration of an external solution which is isotonic to the cell sap of a plant cell.

PROBLEM STATEMENT-what is the concentration of an external solution which is isotonic to the cell sap of a plant cell? HYPOTHESIS- the concentration of an external solution which is isotonic to the cell sap is the concentration of the sucrose solution that does not change the mass of the potato strip. VARIABLES MATERIALS APPARATUS TECHNIQUE

PROCEDURE
1. Seven petri dishes are labeled as A,B,C,D,E,F,G. 2. All the petri dishes are filled respectively with the following solutions.
A: distilled water B: 2% sucrose solution C: 4% sucrose solution D: 6% sucrose solution E: 10% sucrose solution F: 15% sucrose solution G: 30% sucrose solution

PROCEDURE
3. The cork borer is pushed into the potato. 4. The potato tissues is removed from the cork borer. 5. It is then cut into a cylindrical strip 40mm long. 6. Each strip is wiped dry using filter paper. 7. The mass of each potato strip is measured and recorded. 8. Each strip of potato is then placed in a boiling tubes for 30 minutes.

PROCEDURE
9. After 30 minutes, each strip is removed from the boiling tube and dry them using filter paper. 10. The mass of each strip is measured again and recorded in a result table. 11. A graph of the percentage change in mass against the concentration of the sucrose solution is drawn.
