Corners folding show the untidiness of the room, and age of the posters.
The thick, dark curtains are used to represent the characters inability to form close relationships, leading to isolation. This is shown through the visual metaphor of the black curtain blocking out the bright light.

Empty beer bottle represents the characters age. As we are looking at the character as around 17, we can see an issue of underage drinking. However, also representing his troubled nature and his break from social norms as the audience is unsure as to how long the bottle has been there; as the bright light radiating from the bottom of the curtains shows it is early morning to mid-day, and society claims that the most appropriate time to drink alcohol is from evening to night. The DVDs scattered on the desk represent the characters teen age, as well as representing his The beats earphones highlights lack of care and the stereotypical responsibility.
aspect of his teenage character.

Plastic bowl filled with marbles represent the character trying to hold on to his past. The bright colours show that this past is of his childhood.

Bed covers scrunched and untidy help represent the characters teen age. Also, representing the character as troubled with connotations of not sleeping, or a rough night.

Iphone and docking station conveys his class and status.

Weights also represent the characters want-or need-to keep fit.

The exotic mask represents the characters class (upper middle class), as it suggests that he has been on holiday to an exotic country. Also, conveying the wealth of the character, that usually comes hand-in-hand with his class.

The tidiness, and amount of books represents maturity and good education. When juxtaposed to the boys room, the audience can guess that these books, or even this room, doesnt belong to that character, but probably to a parent. Dull, scratched metal represents the characters lack of hygiene, also suggesting that he uses them for various purposes, adding a representation of danger.

Kettle suggests the character as having aspects of maturity. Also, suggesting that he is not home alone, or at least lives with his parents, or someone older.

Papers and book spread over the table represent the characters lack of care for himself or others.

The use of coats suggest that the house is inhabited not just by the teenager, but by his parents also. The red colour conveys danger, and possible death; representing the character as dangerous.

Mise-en-scene: costume/hair and make-up

The character is wearing a high-quality, designer cardigan representing his class and status-upper middle class. Brushed and gelled, smooth hair represents the characters higher class and status, as well as suggesting that he looks after his appearance. This conveys that he wants to show off his higher class and status, or just that he has good hygiene where his looks are concerned.

Good quality, designer jeans represents the characters age as a stereotypical teenager, as well as representing his higher class and status.

Mise-en-scene: Location

Lush, thick greenery conveys the location as a middle-higher class area. This represents the characters higher class and status.

Clean, well-built exterior of the house represents the characters higher class and status, as it is unlikely that this house is near, or part of a working class council estate

Lighting
Bright light shining down upon the character adds a representation of religion to the character, suggesting a holiness, or a purity to the character. This is an ironic representation as the audience will later see. The use of light seeping from underneath the curtain is employed to represent the characters isolation; the light is trying to get in, but the thick, black curtain refusing it entrance. This is a visual metaphor used to symbolise Antonio trying to break into Doms world during the film. The lighting in the house is generally dim, creating a dreary atmosphere. This represents the characters troubled mind and nature.

Sound: diegetic/Editing

The scene spans through an hour of time. I have used elliptic editing, however, to manipulate time from 1 hour to 2 minutes. Therefore, the scene skips through unnecessary action to show the different stages of the gun drawing, as well as the different stages of the kettle boiling, and the character shading different parts of the drawing. Next, the audience see the character in his room, then time jumps a few minutes to show the character walking down the stairs, and rummaging through papers. The scene then skips a few seconds to show the character back in the hallway, picking up keys, then opening and going out the door. Elliptic editing has been employed to represent the characters mental illness as the time skips represent the characters mental deterioration.

Kettle boiling adds to the representation of age, as it connotes maturity. Pencil on paper is employed to add realism to the film, as well as representing the characters focus on his actions at that time, giving the character a sense of responsibility. Therefore, also adding to the representation of age as responsibility shows maturity. The sound of the characters clothes rustling as he moves represents the characters troubled mind, as it symbolises the menta l illness of the character. Papers rustling also adds to the representation of the character as mentally ill, as the sounds are again connoting his troubled mind. Keys clattering add a menacing tone to the scene adding to the characters representation as dangerous and violent. Therefore, adding to the representation of age as the character could be seen as a rebellious youth.

Sound: non-diegetic

Sound effect1(Electro Static Accent). It

fits well with the first Production credit, as the credit uses horizontal blur, so the sound of electricity fuzzing in and out fits adjacently with the blurring in and out of the credit.

Sound effect 2 (Cartoon Conga, and Children Aaaah, and Cymbal Crash). It fits well with the second Production Credit, as the credit conveys ethnicity; the sound of the conga drum also suggests ethnicity. However, the Children Aaaah is interesting because it doesnt particularly suggest ethnicity, but creates a picture more of innocence. Therefore, the sound during this credit is used to represent ethnicity, and innocence, two things that feature heavily in the film, one being true, and the other being ironic. Cymbal Crash is not heard in the intro, as the sound is shortened to fit the credit.

Sound effect 3 (Jet Flying). It fits well with the third Production Credit because the credit uses Sideways Drift. Therefore, the sound of the Jet Flying suits the credit because the sound can be heard as the credit drifts.

Shaker 10, and Classic Rock Steel 02 are both employed to represent ethnicity, as well as creating a gentle piece that fits well over the intro. The shakers are given a space in between each one to give the sound almost of a heartbeat. This represents the dark, edgy, intense, and realistic side to the film.

Heavy rock music (Electric Guitar Swell 01, and Modern Rock Guitar 14, and Natural Drum Kit 11). This fits in well with the clips in which it is played because it is an opening to a song with not much happening. This fits because it is only played over three shots, three shots in which the character is doing nothing but drawing. The music also fits with the dark tone, and appearance of the room.

Heavy rock music (Natural Drum Kit 11, Modern Rock Drums 05, Modern Guitar 14, Edgy Rock Bass 07, and Short Cymbal Crash). This fits with the clips it is played over because it helps create an edgy and dangerous feel to the intro. Also, it is muffled which makes it more realistic as it is coming from the characters room, however the character is no longer in his room. Lastly, the clips are minutes in the future after the previous clips, and this music is mid-way through the song. This helps create the feel of a time jump, subsequently making the intro more realistic.

Camera
Extreme close-up of Iphone in a docking station, showing the band the character is listening to. The band is a heavy rock band. This represents the character as rebellious, and possibly dangerous. Some people could view this as representing the character as troubled.

Mid shot shows the characters activity, as well as highlighting the mise-en-scene being used to represent the characters age and class and status. The characters activity is, however, still hidden, but by the character himself. This represents the characters mysterious nature, as well as his isolation as it suggests that he is rarely open to other people.

Wide shot shows the character in the middle of the room, in amongst the mess. This represents his isolation, as it looks as if he is trapped.

Panning, right to left, is used to show the character walking down the stairs and into a new room. As the character walks down the stairs there is slow, fluid movement which catches his body movement, whereas once he gets down the stair his movement is fast, representing a change in temperament.

These shots are shown sideby-side to represent the mysterious, and edgy nature of the character, as both shots represent the character in a different way, meaning that the audience are unsure what to think about him

However, this mid-shot is employed to clearly highlight the emotion of the character as his sullen surprise suggests that hes seen something that hes seen many times before.

Medium shot is employed to highlight the characters actions. His head is purposefully cutoff so the audience cannot see the characters emotions during this shot, adding to the representation of the character as mysterious, and closed off from the world.

This mid-shot is employed to represent the characters cold personality, and his tendency to be closed-off from other people as his back is to the camera, and therefore to the audience, again not allowing them to see his emotions.

This close-up on the keys being fiddled in the characters hand represents the characters danger and violence as there is a menacing tone to this shot.
