Rod Reversal
1. Rod reversal is not a desired condition as it can lead to failed components.
2. As the load on the piston rod reverses from compression to tension, the crosshead pin changes positions in the bushing therefore allowing proper lubrication on both sides of the pin.
3. Since the compressor cylinders are designed to be double-acting, there will always be proper reversal throughout the life of the compressor.
8. Valves should only need to be monitored if they are suspected of having failed.
9. Smaller diameters cylinders, as long as the valves are in good operating condition, will never be subject to a non-reversing condition.
10. Dresser-Rand always recommends unloading or removing the frame end suction valve/s when single acting a cylinder.
