About the writer


Archer is an English writer. He has written international bestsellers like Kane and Abel, Sons of Fortune and False Impressions. He was born on 15th April 1940 in London. Archer first took to writing at the age of 34 in a bid to repay his creditors. Not a Penny more Not a Penny less was his first novel, an instant best-seller.

He is a former politician and Member of Parliament. His political career ended with his conviction and subsequent imprisonment for perjury. He was imprisoned in 2001 for 4 years ,but was released in the July of 2003. During his term at the prisons of wayland and north sea camp he began writing his memoir THE DIARY OF A CONVICT, which stated his life at the prison.

About the Book


The book is the second in a five book series titled The Clifton Chronicles. The first book titled Only Time Will Tell is set in Bristol, England. It is a saga about two families The Barringtons and The Cliftons.

It follows the life of the main protagonist Harry Clifton, his love interest Emma Barrington, his best friend Giles Barrington and Hugo Barrington from the years 1920 to 1939. As a young boy Harry begins to question his parentage refusing to believe that he is the son of Arthur Clifton who died in war .

Even as Harry discovers the truth about his fathers death and the possibility that Hugo Barrington(Emma and Giles father) could be his father too, war breaks out between England and Germany and he joins the Navy to fight Hitlers invasion.

Harrys ship The Devonian is attacked by the Germans and sinks but Tom Bradshaw an American sailor saves Harry. Tom is eventually killed on board the Kansas Star and Harry takes the opportunity and assumes Toms identity to escape his turbulent past in Bristol.
While in Bristol he is presumed dead by his folks and his love Emma.

The second book The Sins of the Father picks up from 1939 and goes on till 1946. The book opens with Harry in New York, who has taken the identity of Tom Bradshaw, little does he know that he has landed himself in even more trouble as Tom is wanted in a murder case in America.

Though having the best lawyer Sefton Jelks, Harry is tried, found guilty and sentenced to six years in jail. In jail Harry befriends a Max Lloyd. Meanwhile in England, Emma gives birth to Harrys child, Sebastian.

Emma not willing to believe the death of her lover, sets out to America leaving Sebastian in the care of her mother ,to find the truth behind Harrys death.

While in America Emma discovers the truth about Harry and Tom Bradshaw, and pulls every string to meet Harry.

Harry takes up the job of a librarian in the prison library and begins to write a Diary on his life at the jail. When Max Lloyd is released from prison, he requests Harry to send him the diaries saying that he enjoyed reading them. Instead, Lloyd prints Harrys Diary as his own and earns huge profits out of it.

Back in England Giles joins the army and is captured by the Germans. Hugo (Emma's father) returns to Bristol to manage the Barrington Shipping Lines after the death of Sir Walter (Emmas grandfather). Harry too is made to join the US army to fight Hitler and is sent to Europe behind Enemy lines.

Emma ,on reading the Diary printed by Lloyd realises that it is Harry's and with some help from her cousin, is able to locate harry in Europe.

Harry is wounded in an attack and is sent back to Bristol. On regaining consciousness he finds Emma by his bed and meets his son Sebastian for the first time.

Meanwhile due to the sudden death of Hugo Barrington the Barrington Shipping line needs an heir and the case to decide Harrys parentage and lineage is opened in the court of Law. The book ends with the verdict still to be given...

The third book is titled The Best Kept Secret which would be out in 2013.
