    How Cyberknife RadioSurgery Works ?


    CyberKnife system consists of an advanced lightweight linear accelerator (LINAC) - this device is used to produce high energy 'pencil' beams of radiation. There is a robot, that can make the linear accelerator point from a wide variety of angles. It's movements are under the control of a central computer. This centralized computer controlled movement of the system that's also called as the 'Brain' of the machine A pair of X-ray cameras are able to obtain frequent pictures of the patient during the treatment session. The computer uses this information to target the radiation beam with sub-millimeter accuracy. The Cyberknife accuracy represents a major advance in radiosurgery. Digital radiographic images of anatomical features or implanted fiducials are used to precisely target the radiation. The focused radiation beams converge at the tumor to maximize the amount of radiation that reaches the tumor and minimize exposure surrounding health tissue.

    Advantages of CyberKnife Radio Surgery


    The CyberKnife system is able to locate tumors within the body without the use of an invasive stereotactic headframe used with other systems. This is much more convenient and less traumatic for patients. While other forms of radiosurgery can only treat tumors in the head, Cyberknife can treat tumours anywhere in the bodybrain, spine, liver, lungs, pancreas, kidney or prostrate. While other forms of radio surgery treatment techniques need rigid head-frames screwed to the patient's head for controlling movement, which is painful and cumbersome for the patient, CyberKnife does not require such extreme procedures to keep patients in place, and instead relies on sophisticated tracking software, allowing for a much more comfortable and non-invasive treatment.
