PMI Revision 00

Defining types and sizes of power plant: depends on type of fuel and its delivery method, capacity anticipated in next 5-7 years, area for fuel storage, cooling towers, switchyards, space needs for store yards, workshops etc, other factors to be considered are : Geology Water for Power Stations Coal for Power Station Transport Disposal of Effluents Transmission Climatic Conditions Proximity of Airfields Fisheries and Marine Life Personnel Requirement 21 December 2013 PMI Revision 00 3 Amenities

Site Selection

Site Selection
Defining the area from which site is to be selected; load center/ co-generation/green-field project etc. Charaterizing the siting area; for identifying water/road ways, existing transmission routes, fuel sources etc Defining exclusion area; based on national territory / parks, monuments etc Narrowing down the choice by reviewing the maps, photographs, hydrology data, vegetation, transportation access, transmission corridor, topography, geology, work force availability, waste disposal, environmental impact, etc.

SITE ARRANGEMENTS
Central Power Complex is centrally located. It offers optimum space for other main areas. It creates buffer space between CP and adjoining area. Cooling Tower position. Drift must not reach switchyard, coal storage area and should not reach CPC. Length should be minimum to cut costs. It should be minimum 350 m from switchyard and 250 m from CPC.
21 December 2013 PMI Revision 00 11

SITE ARRANGEMENTS
Coal storage It occupies large and level space. It should have 15-120 days of stored coal. Not to be far off from CPC to cut costs on account of costly conveyers. Appropriate rail delivery system, curves, gradients, length of train affects unloading point in / and storage area. Coal dust is not blown onto CPC or nearby property. Space around Coal storage area for a run-off pond.
21 December 2013 PMI Revision 00 12

SITE ARRANGEMENTS
Combustion Waste Sizing for life span for Bottom ash, fly ash, FGD wastes It occupies 10-20 % of total site area. If possible, return the ash to coal mine/land filling. Ground area must be lined to avoid seepage Run-off Pond to catch ash near storage space. Water storage It has to have 3-7 days water requirement.

Feasibility study-Objectives
Feasibility study is not an end in itself;
It doesn't leads to an end ; It helps for reaching a conclusion that is a sound proposition.
