INTERNET SAFETY

Meeting Requirements for Pennsylvania Schools

The Donegal School District provides a computer network and access to the Internet in order to promote communication, collaboration, resource sharing and innovation. District personnel and students must share in the responsibility of maintaining a secure computing environment for all users. The district utilizes a layered approach. First, staff and students are educated on the potential dangers of the Internet and safe computer practices.

Second, the district monitors computer usage throughout district classrooms. Finally, CIPA mandated filtering of web content is provided and is tiered according to user status (administrator, teacher, and student) and grade level (elementary, junior high and high school).

Ultimately, the staff and student users are the most important components in maintaining the networks security and ensuring their safety when using it. To that end, ongoing instruction is provided district-wide to apprise users of potential computer dangers, and what it means to be a good Internet citizen. Topics addressed include, but are not limited to cyberbullying, social interactions and privacy.
