LOCATION
Chiloe is located 1886 kilometers
from Santiago in the south of Chile.

Is called The Big Island because its
dimensions are 250 km long and 50
km wide.

Chiloe is an archipelago of 30
islands.

TO visit Chiloe you need to go
trough the Canal de Chacao where
the only option is traveling by ship.

FOOD
Chilo has a special gastronomy.

One of the most popular dish is El
Curanto.

The ingredients of El Curanto are:
sausages, potatoes, meat, clams,
mussels, milcao, chicken, pork.

For the preparation you need to
cave in the ground, put rocks in the
bottom, turn on fire until the rocks
are red hot, put the seafood, cover
the seafood with leafs of pangue or
parra and put the remaining
ingredients covering again with
leafs of pangue or parra.
FOOD
Another typical food is the Tortilla de Rescoldo and Milcao.
Both are like breads but with different flavors.

CULTURE
Cueca Chilota is similar to national
dance (la cueca) but with a
particular style and clothing.
Palafitos are houses supported in
wood pillars in calm waters as lakes
and lagoons.
El Caleuche is a phantom ship driven
by warlocks that sail in the night on
the sea and under the sea very fast
and very iluminated.

On board, there are parties and music
this attracts boaters who become their
slaves.

When the ship is haunted becomes
rock, tree or anything to go unnoticed.

The punishment for those who look to
Caleuche is twist the mouth, put the
face in the back or kill to the guy
suddenly.

La Pincoya is a female of
extraordinary beauty, sensual, long
and thick hair that covers his back.

With the singing of El Pincoy she
dance naked in the sea moving her
voluptuous body.

The Legend say if she dance
beachfront there will be plenty of
fishes and seafood but if she dance
back to the beach there will be
shortage of fishes and seafood.

El Trauco is the most famous of all the myths of
Chiloe, he lives among the woods his size
doesnt exceed 90 cm.

He protects from rain and sun with a conical hat
of quilineja the same material of his clothing.

He is very strong , he use an stones ax with
which by 3 strokes is able to down a tree .

With the men is very rude but with the women is
very warm, he causes a great attraction in
women despite his appearance.

If a woman try to resist he put erotic dreams in
the girl until she fall rendered in his arms.

This myth is useful for to justify some unmarried
pregnancy
