Feedback Cost Report 2014

Data Uploads / Add item requests
Only a few teams missed the deadlines

We had no problems with data-uploads even if more then 50% of the data has
been uploaded within the last 60 min. before deadline
Problems with misunderstanding of needed information in which document

Differences between Cost Summary (PDF) and Excel-BOM (> 20 Teams)

Appr. 30 add item request recieved, but only 2 correct

Feedback Cost Report 2014

Event Discussion / Judges
Rules Knowledge of the Judges

Most of the Judges seem to be deep in the topic and well prepared

A few Judges had problems (have not been prepared well enough)

We tried to get 3 Judges in each group in a few groups we had less

Behavior of the Judes

We heard of some rude judges we are really sorry for that! Judges should give
constructive feedback and not blame mistakes

Feedback Cost Report 2014

Event Discussion / Judges
Differences between Judge Groups

We only see small differences between the different judge groups but we have still room for
improvements

Feedback at the Event (or later)

Judges should have given you directly a long and detailed feedback at your car

There has been no explicit feedback form (like at the Design event)

We have been available for feedback on request

Feedback Cost Report 2014

Overall Feedback Cost Report / Results
Most of the Teams understand that 100 Points from Cost Report are needed to
win the event
The overall cost report performance of the teams has increased
Small spread of points

0.15 Points difference between Place 1 and 2 (FSC)

Between Winner and 6th place only less then 2.5 Points (FSC)

Between Winner and 5th place only less then 3 Points (FSE)

How to do the Cost Report

Concept Phase and Construction Phase
You are evaluating/developing a concept for your new car

Target should be to have an overall concept for your car which includes cost
aspects (and not only design aspects)

e.g.: Resource Analysis, Priorities for your cost expenses

You have to be able to explain why you made each decision

Define 1-3 Cost Report responsibles/experts (to complete the report)

They are not responsible for making every part! Only for summariziation and questions!

How to do the Cost Report

Construction Phase
Each designer of a part should directly collect all needed data for the cost report

Material

Machining Concept and Process steps

How to connect the part to the vehicle (Fasteners)

Design-to-cost aspects should be concidered

Therefore => Have a Cost Report Kick-Off with the design team to explain which
data they have to collect and how the cost report files work

How to do the Cost Report

Assembly Phase/ Testing Phase (before the Cost Report is finished)
Designers of the car/parts

Each designer should check their parts and compare it to the drawing

Adjust your process/material/fasteners if you have deviations

If material is missing => Add Item Request

Cost Report Experts

collect all the data of the designer

Summarize/complete the report

Have a look at the assembly processes
