Server Refresher VC
Session
Catalog code: 23167

2005 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.

The information contained herein is subject to change without notice

Description
This virtual class is covering the latest news regarding the
non cell based HP9000 and Itanium servers. It is basically
an Update Session for Volume Servers (A.K.A.
Information/Knowledge/Sharing) on 2 and 4 socket ZX1based servers and workstations).

Slides also available from:

http://wtec.cup.hp.com/~cpuhw/IA64/is-meeting/ipf-is.htm

Objectives
Upon the completion of this refresher course, the learner will be able to:
Gain

a better understanding of WTECs charter, team members, and our relationship

with the CPU H/W and Firmware labs.
Understand how to use WTECs Support and Current Issues web pages to best assist
with field CPU H/W problems already known to HP.
Get the latest news from WTEC (service notes, current issues, insider knowledge, etc.)
regarding hardware support for zx1-based Volume Servers. These servers currently run
either Intel Itanium2 processor families or HP PA-RISC PA8800 processor families.
Get additional information on newly released systems or updates to current systems
(e.g. processor/memory/IO enhancements or upgrades to existing families).
Get the opportunity to report to WTEC any field issues that are affecting the
serviceability of current zx1-based volume servers.
Get the opportunity to report to WTEC any observed CPU H/W problems that may be
class related (e.g. are being seen on multiple field systems).
Get the opportunity to report to WTEC any documentation issues (internal and external),
training issues and needs, missing or insufficient service tools or web site data, etc.
NOTE: This training is not designed to replace any hands on training or other formal
CPU H/W training courses.

Prerequisites
Audience
HP Field Hardware CPU Support Engineers (e.g. CE,
RCE, ICOE, Escalation Engineers, WW CPU Field
Specialists).
Additional Prerequisite Notes
Students need experience with the low end servers based
on Itanium and PA-RISC. For example:
rx16x0, rx26x0, rx4640, rx5670, rp34x0, rp44x0

WTEC Charter
Worldwide Technology Expert Center is part of Global
Solutions Engineering (GSE) under Mark Sullivan. WTEC
provides Level 3 technical support to WW Customer
Support field organizations and other HP Services
groups, and delivers expert level 24*7 support to HP's
Mission Critical customers. WTEC works proactively on
quality and supportability initiatives and on the
development of supportability and troubleshooting tools.
The CPU hardware team supports the systems included
in this training session.

Red fault LED on middle disk of rx2600 & rp34x0
Workaround instructions to correct illumination of red
LED on internal disk drive(s) for rp3440, rp3410, and
rx2600 servers
The purpose of this document is to show a simple process to
eliminate the unwanted red LED condition on the disk drive(s)
from coming on during a startup or when the system is
operating normally. This red LED indication on the disk drive is
due to contact between the middle plastic tip of the hard drive
rail guide and the activity LED.
To repair the contact problem, the center plastic tip must be
removed from the end of the hard drive rail guide. By removing
the plastic tip, current will no longer flow across their surface to
enable the LED to illuminate red.
Note: This will not damage the function of the hard drive.
