He

was given 15 centavos by her


grandmother. He went to the bakeshop
to buy pan de sal.
He always finds his way to catch a
glimpse on the old Spaniard's house.
He learned that Aida is the Spaniard's
niece.
Because of his young love for Aida, he
made himself stronger and more
capable of things.

Mr.

Custodio became aware of his


development in his violin lessons
Pete Saez invited him to join the
Minviluz Orchestra, his private band.
His mind begin to think of the things
that he will going to do with the
money.
His aunt didn't approved of him being
a musician.
He planned on giving Aida a brooch.

December

afternoon, Pete was at the door of


their classroom. Pete was as if to tell him a
secret.
He returned to their classroom and happily
greeted everyone. He also approached Aida.
He asked Aida if she is going out of town, he
discovered that Aida will stay for the Holiday.
The appointed evening came, the band
gathered quietly at Don Esteban's gate.
The asalto began.
He saw Aida.

Alicia

and Josefina joined the band.


At last, Pete Saez signaled them that it was
eating time.
He wrapped the egg-yolk things in a napkin
and stuffed it in his pocket.
Someone talked to him and it turned out to
be Aida.
Aida told him that if he could wait, she will
give him a big package of food until the
guests are gone. He felt embarrassed as
Aida saw what he did.

He

walked away to the nearest door


and throw the egg-yolk thing. He
heard his Grandmother calling him.
The party ended at 1 am and they
walked home with their instruments.
Pete accompanied him half of the
way home. They stopped at the
bake shop.
He bought himself a pan de sal

Rising Action:
When

the fourteen year old boy started to learn and


master playing violin.

Conflict:
When

his aunt doesnt support him to perform in public or


parties because the musicians are the last to eat during
parties. (Man vs. Society, Man vs. Circumstances)

Climax:
When

Aida caught him packing some of the food in the

party.
Falling action:
When the fourteen year old throw away the food that he
packed.

Resolution:
The

boy realized that like a pan de sal he is still not yet


ready to face reality.

About the title: The Bread of

Because it all started when he was buying pan


de sal every morning in the bakery near the
great Spanish house where his mestiza
classmate Aida lived and where he begun to
fall in love with Aida.
Simple comforts in times of pain or when our
hopes are dashed
Awakening him to go back to reality
