COUNT VERSUS NONCOUNT


It's

important to understand the


difference betweennoncount
and count nounswhen using many
and much. Noncount nouns are
often used to describe large
categories while count nouns are
usually more specific.

MUCH
Uncountable

nounscan only be used in


singular. These nouns cannot be used with a
number (that's why they are called
'uncountable nouns'). Uncountable nouns
takemuch.
Example:100 moneymuchmoney
Note:Of course you can count money but
then you would name the currency and say
that you have got 5euro (but not
5money).

MUCH / MANY
Much

and Many are usually used


with the negative:
Examples:
There aren't many studentsin the
classroom. (perhaps 4 or 5 students)
There isn't much foodin the refrigerator.
( a small amount of food)

and Many are usually not used


in the affirmative:

Noncount nouns always use a singular
verb. Count nouns are singular or plural.
