Megalopolis

Jean Gottman
was a French geographer who was best known for his

seminal study on the urban region of the Northeast


Megalopolis.
His main contributions to human geography were in the
sub-fields of urban, political, economic, historical and
regional geography.
His regional specializations ranged from France and
the Mediterranean to the United States, Israel, and Japan
Dr. Jean Gottmann, is also the one who scrutinized the Northeastern Corridor

of the United States and defined it as a new social, economic and political
entity he called Megalopolis.

A megalopolis, also known as a megaregion, is a clustered network of cities.

Gottmann defined its population as 25 million
