FRONT
COVER
My masthead represents students as it is called IN THE LOOP this is to
symbolise that students want to be kept informed and involved. This is due
to the connotations of the word loop which to students could mean to stay
connected and involved. This is essential to college students as they want
to feel as thought they are apart of something. The cover lines I have used
represent students and the information they should need or find useful as I
used a questionnaire to find out what they would like to see in the
magazine. From this data I analysed which where said to be most
favourable amongst students and incorporated that in to my design. The
cover lines all give signs that it is for the targeted audience as I talk about
university and stationary as well as transport methods all of which as
student would have to use if they where at college. The image I have
chosen for my front cover is breaking conventions as lots of magazine you
would expect to have direct gaze. whereas the image I have taken doesnt,
I wanted to make my magazine different from others and to stand out for
breaking the typical magazine idea.
I used bold colours such as yellow however I also used more relaxed tones
such as white and blue I did this to attract different types of students for
example some may be more bold and outgoing and others may be more
relaxed or shy so I incorporated both these ideas in to the colour scheme
therefore I would hopefully get a mixture of students who would be
interested in reading my magazine instead of a certain group.
I used the colour green as it has various connotations that could represent
student and college as a whole for example It represents safety and
security which demonstrates the welcoming environment. The colour green
also has connotations of growth meaning metaphorically it indicates that

My contents page represents students as I have used
the two main colours black and white. The
connotations of the colour black are bold and
strength this represents students as there are many
different personal styles which are considered bold as
they are out of the norm of a stereotypical student
therefore my magazine reaches out to everyone.
Strength could also represents students as it take a
lot of hard work and dedication to pursue through
study's therefore meaning it requires strength. The
colour white symbolises perfection this represents
student as they like there work to be perfect it also
symbolises hope and at college students come with
hope and dreams of achieving their full potential. The
pictures also interlink with this idea of hope and
reaching your full potential as I have said before tree
symbolise the growth of the students dreams. In my
contents page i have used clear sections by decided
on a bullet points layout to clarify to the reader where
everything is in my magazine. I used the white bold
text so it would contrast with the black background
and stand out so it would be easily readable.

STRENGTHS
FRONT COVER
I think that there are many good aspects of my magazine such as the thought and
ideas that went in to it more specifically the colour scheme. I chose my colours
based on the feedback I was given from my questionnaires however some of the
colours that were recommended for use in my magazine where not completely
readable on the background image I had chosen. To overcome this problem I had
to add a shadow of a different colour to make the text seem more bold. I am
pleased with the outcome of this as my text is now very bold and the use of the
colour yellow and black gives it a nice finish thats improves the overall look of
my magazine.
Another aspect of my magazine I am pleased with would be the layout of my text
and image, I used a medium close up shot which I feel is the best shot for my
magazine and the look I am going as it is not a well established magazine I stayed
away from the idea of covering my mask head with my image. I also thought
about where I was going to place my text so it didnt cover my models face and
made sure the layout looked professional but simple and effective and somewhat
organised.
I think that the overall finish of my magazine is very effective as the colours work
together to make a suitable but bold effect which you would expect to see on a
magazine in a store. I also feel I added a variety of information enough to inform
the reader and draw their attention to whats inside but not give away too much
so they feel they dont have to read it. I also used splats to make it a bit more fun

I think that a strength of my contents page would be the geometric layout it makes it clear to see
what you are looking at and easy to view where certain sections are going to be. I have used
images that relate to my front cover so people can see some other different images I had taken to
get to my final decision for the front cover image and it breaks convention as usually there are
images that relate to the story's. I fell that another strength would be that I have written what is
going to be on every page with out giving to much information so my audience are still intrigued to
read on. In the peer feed back session I was told my contents page looked very professional and
like an abstract piece of art this shows that my magazine is up to a high standard with the
equipment that is available. I was also told that the use of colour is good at the images stand out
and draw attention as well as the text.

WEAKNESSES
FRONT COVER
I think that my magazine was very skilfully put together however there were some
weaknesses such as I didnt use different fonts I just stuck to one font throughout the
whole magazine contents and cover page. Which people though looked great but they
would have liked to see different size font and would have liked if I had used bold and italic
font. In peer assessment people said they didnt like all the text on the front cover as it
was off-putting as they had too much to read. Another weakness would be that I would
have added more colour although the colour scheme works well together it doesn't make it
stand out as much as it could if it were say red. If I were to do this again I wouldve used
bolder colours.

If I where to do this task again I would have added more images to my folio that
related to my magazine contents as I only have images that relate to the front
cover which could be confusing as people may look at the pictures for guidance
and realise they are actually not much help. I also have quite a lot of space
between my text and images so I couldve put in a lot more information or
images to make my magazine more full and informative. If I were to do it again I
wouldve also added more colour as people found that black and white was very
plain and not as eye catching.
