Devotional

Proverbs 19:17

He who is kind to the poor lends to

the LORD, and he will reward him
for what he has done.
What is the Lord saying here?
 He lends to the LORD

 Who is kind/gracious to the poor

 For his benefits

 He will repay.
He lends to the LORD
and HE will repay
Gifts given to the poor are not given to the Lord, but are
loans, loans that the end of the verse assures us He will
repay.

“repay” – finish, complete, bring to an end

The one who lends to the Lord will find Him completing the
transaction. The one who lends to the Lord knows that
things are not yet finished, because the Lord who is God
will bring it to completion. A gift to the poor might look like a
loss, but it's only the beginning of a double action, which is
completed by the Lord's repayment of His loan.

IT IS REALLY TO OUR BENEFIT.

Who is kind/gracious to the poor
The Lord looks at the heart. What are our motives?
What fuels our desire for service?
Are they pure?
Are they non-judgmental?
Are they reasons because you love Jesus?
