Kingsway Community Church April 4, 2010 Matthew 28:1-6 1 Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb. 2 Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, Matthew 28:1-6 (cont) rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. His face shone like lightning, 3
and his clothing was as white as
snow. The guards shook with 4
fear when they saw him, and they
fell into a dead faint. Then the angel spoke to the 5 Matthew 28:1-6 (cont) women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying. 1 The resurrection proved that Jesus was the Son of God. Romans 1:3-4 3 The Good News is about His Son. In His earthly life He was born into King David’s family line, 4 and He was shown to be the Son of God when He was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is Jesus Christ our Lord. 2 The resurrection made it possible for believers to be born again to an eternal hope. 1 Peter 1:3 Praised (honored, blessed) be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah)! By His boundless mercy we have been born again to an ever-living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 3 The resurrection set believers free from the power of sin. Romans 6:4-6 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. If we have been 5
united with him like this in his
Romans 6:4-6 (cont.) death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin. 4 The resurrection guarantees that believers will never experience “death.” 1 Corinthians 15:20-22 20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death 21
came through a man, the
resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 1 Corinthians 15:20-22 (cont.) For as in Adam all die, so in 22
Christ all will be made alive.
5 The resurrection disarmed all spiritual authorities that opposed God. Colossians 2:15 In this way, He disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by His victory over them on the cross. 6 The resurrection destroyed the devil and all his works. Hebrews 2:14 Since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death - that is, the devil. 1 John 3:8 But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. 7 The resurrection put sin and all the works of the devil under the feet of Jesus and the Church. Ephesians 1:19-23 I also pray that you will 19
understand the incredible
greatness of God’s power for us who believe Him. This is the same mighty power 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him in the place of honor at God’s right Ephesians 1:19-23 (cont.) hand in the heavenly realms. 21 Now He is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come. God has put all things 22
under the authority of Christ and
Ephesians 1:19-23 (cont.) has made Him head over all things for the benefit of the Church. 23 And the Church is His body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with Himself. 1 The resurrection proved that Jesus was the Son of God. 2 The resurrection made it possible for believers to be born again to an eternal hope. 3 The resurrection set believers free from the power of sin. 4 The resurrection guarantees that believers will never experience “death.” 5 The resurrection disarmed all spiritual authorities that opposed God. 6 The resurrection destroyed the devil and all his works. 7 The resurrection put sin and all the works of the devil under the feet of Jesus and the Church.
