INTRODUCTION
In force based design The structure was
designed up to yield during the design of
earthquake, the elastic part of the
response up to yield only examined.
However the real displacements of the
structure is unknown

Where as in displacement based design the real

deformation of each member of the structure
was examined there are two approaches to do
the displacement based design.
One is design from the beginning of the
structure for a certain displacement. The design
displacement was usually determined by
ultimate capacity consideration.
Second is check of an already pre designed
structure and make improvements only to
member that have problem.

Objective
The main objective of the study was
to compare the parameters of force
based and displacement based
design.

out
separately for static loads (DL+LL), and
static plus dynamic loads(DL+LL+EQ). by
taking zone factor as 0.16 and zone III

Displacement based design

In displacement based design the structure
will be designed as taking real displacements
of structure under service condition
Initially the structure was analysed by using
response spectrum method after that
maximum forces and displacements of each
storey are noted. From that the displacements
of individual mass are given by
= yi * (yc/xc)

The base shear calculation

Fbase=ke *yd=532.257 kN

The displacement ductility demand for the

structure is
= yd/y=1.142
Where yd is the design displacement and y is
the yield displacement.

conclusion
By considering the results it has been
concluded that. the design is safe and we
know the real displacements of the
structure from this we can calculate each
store design force in terms of base shear
total displacement design will be done in
next phase
