GLOSSARY

ACCOMMODATION
A term used to include food and lodging. It may be in hotel, inn, pension,
condominium or hostel.

AGENT
A person authorized to sell the products or services of a supplier.

BERMUDA PLAN (BP)


A meal plan which includes both a full English or American type of breakfast
included in the price of the room.

BILATERAL AIR AGREEMENT


A treaty or negotiated agreement between two nations for reciprocal air services
which include equipment, scheduling, specific air freedoms, taxation, landing
privileges and other factors which are important to both parties.

CABIN
A sleeping room in a ship, also the interior of an airplane.

COMMERCIAL CARRIER
Any form of transport carrier that sells its seats to the public.

DEPOSIT
A partial payment to hold space, usually refundable, if cancellation is made in
advance.

DESTINATION DEVELOPMENT
The systematic planning , developing and marketing of a destination to attract
visitors.

ECONOMY HOTEL
A hotel with limited facilities and service patronized by budget travelers. Also
known as second-class or tourist hotel.

ECONOMY SERVICES
Transport service established for carrying passengers at fares and quality of
service below first class and business class. Also known as coach service.

FARE
The amount paid by a passenger or group of persons for transportation,
including accompanying baggage, unless otherwise specified.

FLAT RATE
A special room rate for a group negotiated in advance where all rooms are
priced at the same rate.

GROUND OPERATOR
A supplier that provides local transportation, transfer service, sightseeing and
other services to a client at a destination.

GUARANTEED RESERVATION
A hotel reservation which means that the room will be held all night in the
case of the late arrival of the passengers. In a guaranteed reservation, the
guest must pay for the room whether or not it is actually used.

HOTEL GARNI
A term used to designate European hotels that do not have a restaurant.

IMPORT RESTRICTIONS
Government regulations with regards to the type and quantity of goods that
returning residents are allowed to import after a trip abroad.

INTERMODAL
The used of different types of transportation, as in a tour using a combination of
rail, air and motorcoach services.

JOINT FARE
A fare agreed upon by two or more carriers to provide service from origin to
destination, or a fare for an off-line connection within a country.

LAND ARRANGEMENTS
Land services such as transfers, sightseeing tours, etc.

LATE-SHOW
A passenger or customer holding a reservation who arrives at the check-in desk
after the designated time.
