Capacitance

Transducer

Capacitance Transducer
Comprises of two parallel metalplatesthat are
separated by the material such as air, which is
called as thedielectric material.
In the typicalcapacitorthe distance between the
twoplatesis fixed, but in variable capacitance
transducers the distance between the twoplatesis
variable.

Functions
The value of the capacitance changes due to
change in the value of the input quantity that is to
bemeasured.

Types of Capacitive Transducer

Changing Dielectric Constant type of

Changing Area of the Plates of Capacitive
Transducers
Changing Distance between the Plates of
Capacitive Transducers

Applications
Vibration measurements
Automation requiring precise location
Precision stage positioning
Assembly testing

Advantages
It produces an accurate frequency response to both
static and dynamic measurements.

Disadvantages
An increase or decrease in temperature to a high
level will change the accuracy of the device.
As the lead is lengthy it can cause errors or
distortion in signals.
