Data warehouse concept

What is data warehouse

A data warehouse is a relational database that is
designed for query and analysis rather than for
transaction processing. It usually contains historical
data derived from transaction data, but it can include
data from other sources. It separates analysis workload
from transaction workload and enables an organization
to consolidate data from several sources.
In addition to a relational database, a data warehouse
environment includes an extraction, transportation,
transformation, and loading (ETL) solution, an online
analytical processing (OLAP) engine, client analysis
tools, and other applications that manage the process of
gathering data and delivering it to business users.

OLTP

what is OLTP(Online transaction

possessing )
Online transaction processing, orOLTP, is a class of
information system that facilitate and manage
transaction-oriented applications, typically for data
entry and retrieval transaction processing . The term is
somewhat ambiguous; some understand a
"transaction" in the context of computer or database
transactions, while others (such as the transaction
processing performance council) define it in terms of
business or commercial transactions.OLTP has also
been used to refer to processing in which the system
responds immediately to user requests. An automate
teller machine (ATM) for a bank is an example of a
commercial transaction processing application.

OLAP (online analytical processing)

OLAP (online analytical processing) is computer
processing that enables a user to easily and
selectively extract and viewdatafrom different
points of view. For example, a user can request
that data be analyzed to display a spreadsheet
showing all of a company's beach ball products
sold in Florida in the month of July, compare
revenue figures with those for the same
products in September, and then see a
comparison of other product sales in Florida in
the same time period
