INTRODUCTION
A VCR cooler is a combination of a refrigeration cycle and a conventional desert
cooler. The fan sucks the air inside the room and forces it to pass over the cooling coil i.e. evaporator of the refrigeration cycle thereby the air gets cooled.
WORKING OF THE VCR COOLER
The Vapour Compression Refrigeration(VCR) cooler works on the VCR cycle.
A refrigerant flows through the VCR cycle between two pressure levels. Higher pressure of refrigerant vapour is generated by a gas compressor. The high pressure gas is condensed to high pressure liquid in a condensor. This high pressure liquid is then throttled in a capillary tube. Throttling reduces the temperature of the refrigerant upto -5 oC. The low temperature liquid flows through evaporator coil where air is forced to flow over it. Refrigerant absorbs latent heat from the air and converts into gas which flows to the compressor . On the other hand, air gets cooled by loosing heat.

Advantages over conventional desert cooler :
No addition of moisture in the rooms air. No water requirement thereby very useful in deserts. More cooling effect than conventional desert coolers. No cleaning required. No porous material requirement.
Advantages over an air-conditioner :
Cleaning of the evaporator is easier because the evaporator used in VCR cooler is bare tube whereas air conditioners have finned tubes evaporators. Low electricity bills because the condenser cooling is being done in atmospheric pressure. Low cost than air-conditioner.
