Hijab in the West

Khaled Zahra
and
Rami Chaaban

What is Hijab?
A religious wardrobe
worn by Muslim
women
It consists of a veil
that covers the head
and sometimes part
of the face

Why is it worn?
Women wear it to signify their beliefs and
faith towards their religion.
As a sign of faithfulness and modesty
towards their men.
To protect their bodies from any form of
mistreatment.

Westerns Point of View

Westerns mistakenly believe that the Hijab
is a sign of female oppression.
They banned Hijab in France and Belgium
since 2004.
Many other countries also made the
decision, but later withdraw the law.
Other countries allowed it, but still made
legal restrictions against it, such as
working in government buildings, offices,
and etc

Legal Restrictions
Discrimination

Banned in schools,
universities, institutions,
and workplaces.

Media on Hijab

9/11 attacks
It was a series of four coordinated terrorist
attacks launched by the Islamic terrorist
group al-Qaeda upon the United States in
New York City and the Washington, D.C.,
metropolitan area
The attacks killed 2,996 people and
caused at least $10 billion in property and
infrastructure damage.
The destruction of the Twin Towers and
other properties caused serious damage to
the economy of Lower Manhattan and had
a significant effect on global markets

Aftermath of the attack

Muslim men and women were terribly
mistreated after the event.
Following September 11, 2001, the
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
reported a 1,700 percent increase of hate
crimes against Muslim Americans between
2001 to 2002
Muslim foreigners were met with a lot of
negative disposition, more than any other
foreigner group.

Islamophobia
Islamophobia, a fear or
contempt of Islam
It was intensified after the
9/11 attacks, but it is said
that discrimination toward
Muslim Americans was
present before the attacks
on September 11

Western Delusion
The Hijab isn't only about cloth, Hijab is more than that,"
it's about moral conduct, actions, attitude and intentions
of the individual wearing them
Hijab exists in all humans, cultures and religion; it comes
in different forms and different names, but none of the
other are discriminated as much as the Muslim Hijab

Women shouldnt face discrimination

Women shouldnt face
discrimination from the
way they dress or the
type of traditional
clothing they wear,
they should have the
complete freedom to
dress however they
want and express their
religious beliefs.

Modesty is not a weakness, but fearing it is.
