Cost saving measures

1. LOW INTENSITY FLAME SCANNER IN BOILER1

DURING ANNUAL OVERHAUL OF A BOILER, LDO

CONSUMPTION WAS 10 LAKHS.

AFTER COMMISSIONING OF LOW INTENSITY FLAME

SCANNER, LDO SUPPORT WAS WITHDRAWN AND
CONSUMPTION REDUCED TO ZERO.

IF TAKEN LDO CONSON FOR BOILER1 ALONE OF

2008-09 i.e. 100 kL, A NET SAVING OF 35 LAKHS IS
ESTIMATED PER YEAR.

AND IF BOILER2 TAKEN TOGETHER (358 kL LAST

YEAR), NET SAVING OF 1.6 CRORES IS ESTIMATED
PER YEAR.

2. MAGNETIC GAUGE GLASS CUM TRANSMITTER

FOR HOT WELL LEVEL IN STB

Earlier STB tripped a couple of times in last six

months on erratic hot well level high during load
fluctuation at BF in spite of close monitoring and
closely shaved a number of times.

After commissioning of this, hot well level

monitoring is under control and hence no more trip
on account of this.

Net saving of lakhs @ / trip ( in terms of both hot

metal production and power generation).

3. BY IMPLEMENTING OBR

Using spent solar oil in place of LDO

Solar oil is generated from gas
cleaning plant
NINL does not have facility to clean
spent solar oil
So solar oil is either cleaned out side or
sold

4. ILLUMINATION

Soalr oil is being mixed with LDO and used in

boilers

5. BY STOPPING AUXILIARY DRIVES

During winter, two nos of CT fans( 30 KW each) of

ACW system, one CT fan of TBS and one CT fan
of TPP were stopped.

Net saving on energy consumption in three

months
= 0.8 x 24 hrs x 120 days x Rs3.00(2x30 +45 +90)
= approx. Rs 8.6 lakhs

6. RUNNING ID FAN ON LOW SPEED

During shutdown of BF and low BF gas

availability, with close monitoring of boiler
parameters, ID fans of boilers are being changed
over to low speed.

The rating of high speed is 400 KW and that of

low speed is 75 KW.

Net saving on energy consumption = Approx. Rs

500/hR/boiler.

7. STOPPING OF ONE BFP

During low load operation of boilers, out of the

two running boiler feed pumps ,one no Pump is
stopped.

The rating of BFP motor is 660 KW.

Total power consumption

running= 900- 1000 KW.

during

two

BFP

Total power consumption

running= 600 KW.

when

one

BFP

Net saving on energy consumption

= minimum Rs 900/hr.

8. SAVING DUE TO REDUCTION OF STEAM LOSS

Reduction of steam loss by installation of steam

traps in main steam header drains.

@0.5 T/hr, equivalent increase in power

generation will be 3 MWH in a day.

Net savings = Rs 9000/day

9. FUTURE PRODUCTIVITY PROJECTS

Installation of separate governing oil skid for STB.

Low intensity flame scanner in Boiler2.

Motorised hot well level controller to be replaced

by a pneumatic one.
