Common Morality
Is the set of moral beliefs shared by
almost everyone.

Three Characteristics of Common


Morality
1. Many of the percepts of common
morality are negative.
2. Distinction of positive and negative
aspects of common morality.
3. Common Morality makes a
distinction between an evaluation of
a persons actions and evaluation of
his intentions.

Personal Ethics / Personal


Morality
Is the set of moral beliefs that the
person holds.

Professional Ethics
Is the set of standards adopted by
professionals insofar as they view
them selves acting as professionals.

Important Characteristics of
Professional Ethics
1. Unlike common morality and
personal morality, professional
ethics is usually stated in a formal
code.
- Professionals societies usually
have codes of ethics referred to
Code of Professional responsibility
Code of professional Conduct

2. The professional codes of ethics of a
given professions focus on the
issues that are important in
professions.
3. When one is in a professional
relationship, professional ethics is
supposed to take precedence over
personal morality at least ordinarily.

4. Professional ethics sometimes
differs from personal morality in its
degree of restrictions of personal
conduct.

5. Professional ethics, like ethics


generally has a negative and
positive dimension.

Role Morality - Is the name given to


moral obligations based on special
roles and relationship.
Dimension of Professional Ethics
1. Preventive Ethics focus on
preventing professional misconduct
and harm to the public. Professional
also have an obligation to use their
knowledge and expertise to promote
public good.

2. Aspirational Ethics More


positive dimension of
professional ethics, it encourages
aspirations or ideals in
professionals to promote welfare
of the public.
