Ratatouille Concept Art

In 2006 Pixar decided to make a film called ratatouille, the story is about a rat who wants to be a chef
and enlist the help of a human who cant cook to help making a great cooking duo. In able to do this
film they needed some visual ideas of paris a6nd the set of where the characters will be through out
the film, they haired some concept artists for characters and location ideas however the one i am
going to focus on is Daniel Arriaga and the concept art he produce. Ill be going into more detail not
only on his life working his way up to a concept artist, i will also be giving my opinion on two of his art
Concepts that he has done for the film ratatouille and what impacted it has on me i it mood, colour
and detail.

My thoughts on his art -1

The first art i want to talk about is Daniel Arriaga's art
concept for chef Gusteau's restaurant, when i look at this
art work i feel like i am in paris morning life. I get a sense
of this calm and relaxing environment before the hussel
and bussel of work. I think the reason i get this is because
of the warm and light colours i can see in this concept, It
helps the mood of this art because of the yellows, oranges
and other light colours gives me a clean sight into what the
mood is suposse to be. I love the detail that goes into the Is
concept, i feel the simplistic design allows the details of
the colour to shin in this concept were looking at it, its like
a light painting fitting in well with each other.

My thoughts on his art - 2

As for his other concept it is the polar opposite to the
previous one, for it is gloomy and depressing but of it
being a office and having this morbid feel to it as if it
screams do not enter or the stress is coming. I think it is
clever how he imput the life in a office with tne small
details like the stack of papers that i see just build and
build, this work by the mixtures of greys and dark browns
& purples show that it is a stressing place to be and makes
me feel anxious looking at it. Again as the other concept
was beaming with light details to set the mood this one
has a much more darker and harsher tone with the line
drawing in the concept giving us gloomy feel of this office
which is a good effect to emphasise the mood further.

Why i choose Daniel

I love how he has drawn his concepts because they give off this
simplicity look to the them but then is backed up with this detail of
colour that we can relate to and express how we feel about them. I
feel this art style could help me with my own concepts by trying to
capture the moods of my art, to invite others into this world i have
created and make them feel welcomed. I want to give my audience
moods im trying to project in the concept just like Daniel Arriaga
has done with his ratatouille Concepts.
