Similarly, the transverse shear stress resulting from the shear force found previously

is normally not considered because its stress effect is much smaller than that of the
bending moment at the same location. As shown below, the ratio of maximum
transverse shear stress to that caused by the maximum bending moment at Bearing
2 is about 5%, which can be considered to be negligible and hence this stress will be
omitted from the consideration for the calculation of the diameter of the shaft.
