GROUP 2

Learning Task:
Research on the socioemotional learning(SEL). How
does this relate to conducive
learning environment?

SEL
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through
which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the
knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand
and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel
and show empathy for others, establish and maintain
positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

Social and emotional

learning (SEL) is an umbrella
term for a variety of skillsbased programs designed to
help young people improve
relationships with peers and
adults, and to develop
emotional understanding,
self-control, and healthy
values.

How does this relate to conducive

learning environment?

An environment conducive to learning

needs to be one that recognizes the points at
which
interpersonal,
intrapersonal,
and
academic domains converge. The development
of strong social and emotional skills programs
allows these necessary linkages to be made.
That, in turn, makes it possible to reach
students, to engage them, and to help them
feel that they can contribute to the school and
the community, to their families, and to their
future workplace. More important, such
programs also give them the skills to do so.

Providing children with comprehensive

social
and
emotional
learning
(SEL)
programs characterized by safe, caring,
well-managed and conducive learning
environments and instruction in social and
emotional skills addresses many of these
learning barriers through enhancing school
attachment, reducing risky behaviors and
promoting
positive
development,
and
thereby positively influencing academic
achievement.

The key concept is creating a school

environment that is supportive of and conducive to
healthy social-emotional development of children
and healthy mental habits.
