Reproductive Cycle
An organism undergoes a series of changes in
form that returns back to the starting point

Asexual Reproduction
Sexual Reproduction

Sexual Reproduction
Fusion of gametes takes place
Involves alternating haploid and diploid stage
3 types of cycle in regards to change of
ploidy
Diplontic
Haplodiplontic
Haplontic

Sexual Reproduction
2 types:
Conjugation: It involves temporary pairing of
two parents to exchange male and female
gametes

Syngamy: Also called as fertilization by union of

gametes
Hologamy
Heterogamy
Isogamy

ISOGAMY
Form of sexual reproduction that involves
gametes of similar morphology

Gametes cannot be classified as male or

female
different mating types , + or - strains
Fertilization occurs when gametes of two different
mating types fuse to form a zygote

Chlamydomonas and Hydrodictyon

Hydrodictyon
Also known as water net
Non motile coenobium
Found in ponds, recreational waters, and
irrigation canals

Life Cycle of Hydrodictyon

Conclusion
Reproductive cycles are important because it
includes different types of reproduction and/or
cycles depending on the organisms way of
continuing its lineage.

Haplontic Isogamy is one type of sexual

reproduction that involve gametes of similar
morphology. This cycle is mostly done by some
algae, which have both motile and non motile
cells in their life cycle.
