Building Information Modelling

Introduction
Building Information Modelling (BIM) according to the US
National Building Information Model Standard Project
Committee is defined as :
. A digital representation of physical and functional
characteristics of a facility. A BIM is a shared knowledge
resource for information about a facility forming a reliable
basis for decisions during its life-cycle; defined as existing
from earliest conception to demolition
It is a 3D model platform which takes collective inputs from
the architect, engineer and all the construction professionals
involved to make a digital model of the facility to be
constructed.

Objective
To design and construct a net zero emission house using
principles of BIM and green housing
To improve building quality and to reduce building life cycle
cost using BIM
To implement BIM in operation plans and documentation to
optimize the cost and time

Technology Selected
The
BIM platform used for the
project Solarize is
Autodesk Revit (educational version) one of the best BIM
platforms in the market.

Advantages
Quickly iterate on design elements including building form,
sustainability, client requests, municipal regulations,
budget etc
Energy analysis in every design stage to reduce ongoing
energy consumption
Complete set of designs documents in an integrated
database
Enhances project communication and collaboration among
teams
Create more accurate cost estimates
Extract information from BIM to pre-fabricate building
components (modular construction) to improve project
schedule, reduce cost, improve site safety, and produce
greener construction practices by reducing material waste
