ON THE
ST
OF NOVEMBER 2010
WE HAD OUR FIRST OUR FIRST STUDY TOUR
OF ITTEHAD MILLS.
IT WAS REALLY
AN EXCITING AND
INFORMATIVE ONE .

What Is Steel

Steel is an alloy of iron with carbon. Quantity

of carbon ranges from 0.1-1.3% .

The steel used for structural engineering

purposes, some quantities of silicon and
manganum are also present. These
elements adds to the stiffness of the steel.

Steps for Steel Preparation

Following steps are involved in preparation of Steel.
First of all raw material which is in the form of
large rods(billets) is heated to a high temperature
which becomes red hot.
Then the red hot rods are molded into desired
shape
Their shape is a bit rough to have some friction
with cement
Then the steel cools and is ready for construction
Finally its quality is checked through various
processes by finding its tensile strength.

Importance Of Steel in Civil

Engineering
Steel is one of the basic materials used in Structural

Engineering.
It is the most essential component of any building hence
providing the structure, the strength it needs to have.
Ductile Steel helps buildings resist against tremors and
earthquakes.
