Introduction To Project
Whats the purpose of an audience questionnaire??
In general, questionnaires are effective mechanisms for efficient collection of certain
kinds of information. Most importantly all questionnaires permit respondents time to
consider their responses carefully without interference from, for example, an
interviewer and each respondent receives the identical set of questions (The
Economics Network).
In the context of this project, an audience questionnaire will help assist me in the
creation of my short thriller film. I structured each question to particularly answer
any questions I had regarding the audience, structure, and details of my film. In total,
there are 8 questions, each with corresponding date graphs/charts. By completing this
questionnaire, I hope to have a better idea on how to film my thriller and reach out to
different audiences.

Your Gender
Explanation of Graph: Its important to have the opinions of both female and male viewers since
they can dramatically differ. So, for this questionnaire I surveyed an equal amount of females and
males, all falling between the 16-18 year range. The ages strictly fall within this category because
the majority of this questionnaire took place at my high school.

Explanation of graph:
Although my short film will be primarily a
thriller, I would like to incorporate elements
from different genres as well (in order to make a
multi-dimensional film). On the basis of this
graph and the results, it appears that I will have
to try to weave in elements of an action movie
(such as fighting and confrontations).

Preferable Gender for

Antagonist Role
Explanation of graph:
Every movie has a character that stands out as the
antagonist (the bad guy, or the pessimist). I wanted to see
which gender viewers preferred to see taking on this role.

Different Styles of Film

Openings

Explanation of graph:
This question serves to
voice the style of opening
viewers prefer, and tell
me how I should start my
film. Based on the results,
it appears that the people
enjoy how films progress
right into the first scene
of a movie, with the
credits rolling in hand.

Explanation of graph:
Different sources and styles of sound can
really make a movie worthwhile. This
graph reveals that non-diegetic sound
(like background music) are most
effective in evoking emotion from
viewers in films.

Explanation of graph:
Just as I aimed to discover the type of

find out how I should end my film. Data
shows that people like unexpected or
shocking endings to films.

Explanation of graph:
In general, or with most new
movies, people hear about them
over social media sources (such as
facebook, instagram, snapchat, or
twitter, etc.) Knowing how
viewers hear about new films is
important to production companies
because it can direct them to the
proper audiences they should
focus on; spend more time
reaching out too and spending
money to advertise.

Analysis of
Results

How will these results affect how you plan your film opening?
The results of this audience questionnaire will help me prepare the numerous
details in my film and its opening. Based off of the results, I will try to
incorporate elements from action films, lots of emotional non-diegetic sounds,
a classic film opening, and an unsuspected/shocking film closing.
What will you include/not include based on these results?
As mentioned in the previous section, there are numerous things I will to try
to include into my short film. Due to the facts that its a class project, I do not
necessarily need to focus on the Sources of Hearing About New Films or
viewers Source of Watching Movies. As these are two things major film
companies must focus on.
Who will be your main target market based on these results?
Since I only had time, and easy access to a range of teenagers in high school
(particularly 16-18 year olds), the main target for my short thriller clip will be
teenagers. The results clearly show that females and males have different
opinions- which will contribute to the creation of a more diverse thriller film.
