Cancer patients
1. The goal for this discourse community is to beat cancer and gain the
title of cancer survivor.
2. Communication within this community can range from texting to
verbal communication as well.
3. Feedback to reach the goal of becoming cancer survivors may be to
recommend certain treatments and diets that help
4. Genres in this include commercials and such fundraisers like race for
the cure to help find new treatments.
5. Their lexis may contain cancer terms as well as medical talk
(metastasis, osteosarcoma).
6. You are not born into this community since cancer may appear in
anyone at any point of their life, and although it is difficult, you may
slide out of this group

The support group in the literal heart of

1. Their common goal within the support group is to overcome the
illnesses in a positive manner
2. Their way of communication includes speaking aloud within their
weekly meetings
3. Feedback within this group is in order to achieve happiness with their
unfortunate circumstances, they talk out what is bothering them while
their peers can give them possible advice.
4. Genres for this group is doctor recommendations/advertisements
5. Their lexis is average teenager talk, with the occasional use of
medical terms to explain their illness.
6. Within the book and/or movie, hazel grace does refuse to go to this
support group, so it is possible to enter and exit this group as the
individual pleases.

Book club for Peter Van Houten


1. Goals for this club is to find out what happens to various characters in
the novel an imperial affliction.
2. Communication within this community includes texting as well as
verbal communication.
3. Feedback to reach their common goal includes arranging plans with
the authors assistant.
4. Genres used include the make a wish foundation.
5. The lexis in this book club may include the names of some characters
such as ANNA, the dutch tulip man, and sysiphus the hamster.
6. Members in this group may be fans of the book and/or author as well
as realize how terrible the author is and eventually, fall back on their
positive opinion of Van Houten and thus, removing themselves from
said book club
