DIRECTION:
1. Bring out the following materials:
4 saucers
5 bean seeds (soaked overnight)
1 lens (magnifying glass) per group
1 pencil
1 notebook
1 nail cutter

2. Get the bean seeds.


3. Remove the skin of the seeds.
4. Using the nail cutter, split the seeds
open.
( CAUTION: exercise caution in
handling sharp objects.)
5. In your notebook, draw and color
the parts of a seed.

6. Look inside the bean using a


hand lens and observe.
7. Draw the appearance of a monocot
and dicot seeds.
8. Count the parts of a seed.

Seed coat- protects the seed


from injuries and prevents it
from drying up.
Cotyledon provides the food
for the growth of the young
plant.
Embryo the young plant or
immature plant inside and it
will soon develop into a plant.

Endosperm is a source of the


stored food.
Plumule the part that develops
as the first leaves of the new
plant.
Radicle it is the part of the
seed that becomes the primary
root.

monocot
seed to a
dicot seed?
Dicot seed
have two
cotyledons
while monocot
seed has only
one cotyledon

the seed.
2. State the appearance and function
