Theory
As science has evolved, some aspects of the humanities are questioning their place in the
modern world.
The humanities are topics which are considered to be deeply human. The search to fill our
endless curiosity has led to a much deeper understanding of our entire universe. Science
attempts to aid in the search for knowledge through structure.
Science has proved to be such a powerful device that it is now present all throughout our
lives. This has caused the other aspects of the humanities to change in order to
encompass science.

Advancements in Science

Self driving cars

GMOs
Curiosity taken to Mars
Flip Phones to Touch screens
Cardiac MRI
Computer Chips
Precise Genetic Mutations
Travel to Space

Philosophy
Based on the advancements of science, in the recent years we as human beings have begun
to question whether science is reliable

Genetically Modified Organisms

Definition: direct human manipulation of an organisms DNA in a laboratory environment.
Can be anything from plants to animals

Advantages
More food with less land
Reduce of pesticides
Better food quality & taste

Disadvantages
Unknown health effects
Allergic reactions
Long term Ecological
impacts

Self Driving Cars

Pros
Less space for human error
81% of car crashes are human error
Police officer focus will shift
Can be focused on more serious crimes
Drunk Driving will decrease

Cons
Security
Hackers
Can eliminate many jobs in
the transportation sector
Negative effect on
unemployment &
economy
Who holds responsibility in
a car accident?

Books: The Maze Runner Series

Literature has always had different opinions as

to where science is headed
Dashner has a very apocalyptic view on science
Throughout the series Dashner reveals he
believes science will make mistakes
At the end of the series Dashner reveals he has
hope for the future of science

Movie: The Matrix

Like books, movies have
also had different opinions
as to where science is going
This movie has a negative
view on the future of science
The movie shows that
people will destroy the planet
we live on and create an
alternate way of living

Robotic Art

400 B.C. Archytus of Taremtum

invented a wooden pigeon that
could fly

Juanelo Turriano created a wooden

robot that could move around and
pretend to say prayers while
moving his head.

Robotic Art

Robots are playing an

increasing role in daily life

Kia Sportage Assembly plant.

Slovakia 2012.

Robotic Art

McDonalds employees protest for

$15 an hour nation wide

McDonalds Ex-Ceo Ed Rensi its

cheaper to buy $35,000 robotic arm
than it is to hire an employee whos
inefficient

Music

People during the Elizabethan era

considered music as one significant
part of their life

Their music is famous because of its

classy and varied forms

Music

Like the electric guitar, Autotune has been repeatedly

dismissed as unnatural

Auto-tune can correct a singers

bad notes and wavering pitch

It seems the technology has

made new enemies over the
years

Music

Is Auto-tune replacement of talent?

Auto-tune has not only changed the

way music is made, its also shaped the
way music is heard.

Religion
Catholic Church

Catholic Church has been responsible for many

scientific advancements since the middle ages.
There have been times that faith has seriously
conflicted with science, famously with Galileo.
Methodical research in all branches of
knowledge...can never conflict with the faith
The Vatican Observatory is a modern day hub of
Catholic science.

Creationism

Creationism is a belief that all things in the

universe, one way or another, are influenced
by the divine.
There is a spectrum when it comes to
creationists, including:

Young Earth Creationism, which believes

the universe to be 10,000 years old and
does not believe in evolution.
Theistic Evolution, where The Big Bang
and evolution are accepted, but
believed to have been sparked by the
divine.

Religion

Scientology
Despite its many successes, science has not provided answers to questions Man has
been asking himself since time immemorial: Who are we? What do we consist of?
Where do we come from? Where are we going? What are we doing?
The religion claims to be both scientific and spiritualistic, and that it brings its followers
over not with faith and belief, but through logic and facts.
While still also believing in Space Operas.

Politics
Ethics

During the second World War, Nazi

Germany conducted tests on humans.
In the modern day there are now laws and
regulations on what can be done to both
humans and animals.
Our government has has not always
been ethical in its scientific practices.

Environment

Human progress has had unintended

consequences, such as the damage done to
the environment.
There are now movements attempting to
change or cut back on industrialism.
This is most prevalent in the state of
California, which has the tightest
environmental laws in the country.

Politics...In Outer Space!

In 1966 the United Nations adopted

the Treaty on Principles Governing the
Activities of States in the Exploration
and Use of Outer Space, including the
Moon and Other Celestial Bodies

The Moon and other celestial bodies

shall be used exclusively for peaceful
purposes

Astronauts shall be regarded as the

envoys of mankind
Outer space is not subject to national
appropriation by claim of sovereignty,
by means of occupation, or by any other
means
Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and many other
revolutionary companies, is hopeful that there
will be humans on Mars by the year 2024.
He also believes that in 50 to 100 years time,
the population of the planet will be one
million.
