AMELOGENESIS AND DENTINOGENESIS

ROOT FORMATION
THE PROCESS OF ROOT DEVELOPMENT TAKES
PLACE AFTER THE CROWN IS COMPLETE
THE STRUCTURE RESPONSIBLE FOR ROOT
FORMATION IS :CERVICAL LOOP.
MOST CERVICAL PORTION OF THE ENAMEL
ORGAN,A BILAYER RIM THAT CONSISTS OF ONLY
I.E.E. AND O.E.E. HERTWIGS EPITHELIAL ROOT
SHEATH.

INITIATION
CLINICAL CONSIDERARATION
The lack of initiation
Absence of single or
multiple teeth
Abnormal initiation

SUPERNUMERARY
TEETH

PROLIFERATION
Enhance proliferative activity
Causes regular changes in the
size and proportion of the
growing tooth germ .
Ensures stages like Bud, cap and
bell occurs.
Size and proportion
Otodental syndrome

HISTODIFFERENTIATION
This stage is seen at its peak in bell stage when cells of
developing enamel organ differentiate into cells of enamel
and dentin formation.
Inner enamel epithelial cells --- ameloblasts
Dental papilla------------------------odontooblast

MORPHO DIFFERENTIATION

Basic form and size of the tooth is established

Dentino-enamel and dentino- cementum junction act

as blue print pattern.
ANY DISTURBANCES DURING THE PROCESS OF
MORPHODIFFERENTIATION MAY RESULT IN SIZE AND SHAPE
DISTURBANCES. EXAMPLE:
Supernumerary cusps or roots.
Twinning of teeth.
Disturbed shape peg shaped incisors, incisor with notched
incisal edges

APPOSITION
Apposition is the process of deposition of matrix of hard
dental structures.
Appositional growth of enamel and dentin is a layer like
deposition of extracellular matrix which later gets calcified.
This type of growth is additive.
Disturbances during the process may result in enamel
hypoplasia, enamel hypocalcification etc.
