7 Effective ways to use

PowerPoint

1. Outlining
Content is an important part of any
presentation.
PowerPoint can be used as effective
outline that shows important points
to elaborate on during a
presentation.
Utilizing a PowerPoint outline can
help a presenter to direct a
presentation in a desired way.

2. Large Font/Brief content

It is important that the audience can
read what the power point is showing.
If points made are too lengthy, the
audience may spend more time reading
from the power point, and less time
listening to the presenters elaborations.
By using large font and brief content,
the points made during the presentation
are clear and concise.

3. No moving text
The focus of the audience should be
on the presenter, and the power
point used as a reference.
With moving text/images, focus is
brought to the power point in a way
that is unnecessary.
This can lead to the audience not
listening to a certain part of what the
presenter explains.

4. Visuals
A picture is worth a thousand words, so why
waste your time by writing them out? and
the audiences time by reading them?
Visuals provide the audience with examples
and clear, physical understandings of points
made by the presenter.
The audience can observe and image and
listen to the speaker for more effective
comprehension.

5. Review Slide
Have a slide that reviews the main
points of the presentation.
This type of repetition can help the
audience reflect back on what they
learned from the presentation.

6. Blank Screen
Sometimes it is important for the
audience to have all attention on the
speaker.
Again, the power point should be
used as a reference to the speaker.
When the speaker wants sole
attention on his or herself, a blank
screen can come in handy so that the
audience is not inclined to veer over
to the screen.

7. Draw on screen
If youre not using a smart board, you can
press Ctrl-P to display a pen on screen, then
use the mouse to draw.
To erase, press E. To hide the pen, press A
or Ctrl-H.
Drawing on screen can help the presenter
to circle or underline an important concept.
There are various ways that a presenter
could better explain a concept by drawing
on screen.
