Floating House
Floating House
A PRESENTATION BY THE
STUDENTS OF LEARNING
PATHS SCHOOL
INTRODUCTION
Flood can be one of the most
devastating natural disasters. They
take a major toll on the earth's
resources . People become homeless.
3D MODEL
CALCULATIVE
FORMULA
The equation is:
fVs= oVo
where
f is the density of the fluid
Vs is the volume submerged
o is the density of the object
Vo is the volume of the whole object
V is times V
HYPOTHESIS
If the density of an object is lesser
than the density of the fluid in which
it is immersed then the up thrust
would make the object float. Similarly
if the volume of the house is
increased (inversely proportional)
and the mass decreased (directly
proportional) the density of the
house decreases and it is able to
float.
FLOOR PLAN
OBJECTIVE
To design a floating house for
frequently flooded regions and costal
areas that can sustain the
tremendous amount of force
generated by running water.
MATERIALS REQUIRED
A wooden block
A brick
A scale
An aquarium
A measuring
cylinder
METHODOLOGY
The house works on the Archimedes
principle which states that a body totally
or partially immersed in a fluid is subject
to an upward force equal in magnitude
to the weight of fluid it displaces.
OBSERVATION
We observed that the house of made
of standard bricks and cement floats
with a caisson built underneath on
the support of stilts.
DATA ANALYSIS
RESULT
After our observations we inferred
that when we prepare a caisson
using wooden blocks it floats
whereas the one made with bricks
does not float. The weight of the
house can be decreased using
recycled materials like PET bottles
filled with sand and wood in place of
concrete. This will decrease the
volume , thus allowing the house to
