A Philosophical

Approach
Casey Sansevieri

What to expect
There will be no definitive answer
Many of us learn differently, so
teach differently
Have fun while learning.
Otherwise, what is the point?!

Main Schools of Thought

Rationalist
Approach has roots in religious
theory
Learning by unlocking the
knowledge, not all sensory driven

Empiricist
Sensory development from birth
Patterns and relativity conceivable

Rationalist Approach
A student will seek answers for
the unknown actively, accepting
the question being not a means
to the end
Students who use this approach
tend to lean toward ambiguous
academia, including:
Philosophy
History (Pertaining to the Why)
Religious Studies

Empiricist Approach
Will rely on sensory information to
develop functions of the brain
Most empiricists will follow
patterns and social constructs
due to a correlation to operant
conditioning
Empiricists gravitate toward:
Science
Mathematics
Computer Engineering

How To Use In Your District

Application
Knowledge of the foundations of learning
can open up new approaches to learning
Students may identify with one during a
homeroom or advisory period, thus giving
the teacher a better understanding of the
students way of thinking.
Students may want to identify with one or
the other to assist in decision making and
for some, may lead to discoveries about
their beliefs and faith

WHY DO THIS???!!!
As a teacher, we must first
understand where the students
are coming from to be able to
teach
Many students who feel they do
not belong may now feel a
sense of community and
belonging
Although an advanced subject,
learning early may convince
students to pursue higher goals
