Norman Rockwell
Rockwell's illustrations for the
cover of The Saturday Evening
Post is what he is most
famous for. Norman
Rockwell's most famous
pieces are Rosie the Riveter,
Willie Gillis, saying grace, and
the four freedoms.
Without thinking too much about it in specific terms, I was showing the America
I knew and observed to others who might not have noticed.
Norman Rockwell
Describe
The art piece has Santa Clause
sitting, with eyes closed. He is
wearing a grey apron. There are
also Elves on his shoulder, lap,
and near the floor. He is holding a
red bag, with elves crawling
around the bag and taking things.
There is a toy house on his lap
that has a sticker that says RUSH,
also there is a paint bucket that
an elf is using to paint the toy
house.
Analyze
interpret
The piece has many dull colors which
gives off a gloomy mood. Although it
also has red color throughout the
piece.I think the artwork is about how
Christmas is becoming more about
giving toys without actually
celebrating Christmasinstead of being
with family and how the Christmas
spirit is fading away. The dull cream,
grey, and white colors I think
represent the fading away of the
Christmas spirit, while the red color is
the remaining Christmas spirit. Also
the sticker that says rush represents
the lack of passion for creating toys.
