Daisy is Nicks second cousin and wife of Tom Buchanan
She always seems to look forward to something and then
Miss it. When speaking to Nick about her daughter, Daisy says

but money isnt making her happy.

Overall, the first chapter was for
introducing the characters and the
setting of the story. Rather than jumping
right into action, it is important to know
the characters and how complex they are
(or arent) so we can have a better
understanding of situations when things
happen later on.
