BAROQUE is adapted from Portuguese noun BAROCCO meaning a pearl of irregular shape.
EVOLUTION -Council of Trent (1545-1553)Roman Catholic (1563) declared art should be more vernacular .
The baroque style in architecture emerged as
a revolt against the rigid conventions of Italian Renaissance classicism. Instead of the straight lines of classicism, curved and broken lines appeared. Decoration became more important and elaborate, and spaces became more complex, their impact highlighted by the dramatic use of light and shade. The Baroque style, though enthusiastically developed in Spain, was to a
large extent, in Spain, an architecture of surfaces and faades, unlike in France and Austria where we see the construction of numerous huge palaces and monasteries. The Baroque arch had its influence almost in entire Europe and did had its ripples surfacing in Asia in late medieval and on the American continent in early medieval.
