Influences

The Forest
For our opening sequence, we took influence from the
highly successful The Forest. The film was released in
2016 and direction by Jason Zada. The film was a box
office success grossing 37.6 million (dollars) against a
budget of 10 million (dollars). The director was most
attracted to the film due to aspects of the film being a
true story. The location where the film is set Japans,
Aokigahara forest is a forest dubbed the suicide forest
due to numerous suicides having taken place there.
Audiences were also attracted to the true story aspect
of the film. The film being more attractive and horrifying
due to its true story element.
Synopsis
The film was about an American woman who receives a
phone call that her sister is missing and presumably
dead, as she was last seen going into the suicide
forest. Sara Price (main protagonist) then sets out on a
mission to discover what really had happened to her
sister. She goes into the forest hoping to find her sister,
but what she finds is far more sinister. With
physiological aspects to the film, the film attracted to
masses and interest grew into the real suicide forest.
The film attracted audiences as it gave them the
realism in the real suicide forest locaton.
Elements that wish to use within our
opening sequence
As a production company, we wish to use the elements
of realism within our film to attract audiences. Our
opening sequence will also be set in the forest where a
girl finds herself trapped within the forest and with The
Watcher, watching her every move. Many generic horror
movies are set in forest, which will bring audiences to
our film. We also wish to use the elements of
incorporating themes of the mind and horror together
as The Forest did for its film. This proved to be very
popular with film goers, as the thought of the mind
being the biggest horror seemed to be a very intriguing
and attractive aspect.
