CHILDHOOD
She was born into slavery and into a big family. She tok care of her younger
brother and a baby (was typically done when in large families) she was
whipped if either child were to wake up and cry. She had to wear many
layers of clothing to protect herself from the beatings. Later was sold to a
planter named James Cook and was in charge of checking muskrat traps.
She became fatally ill with measles so was given back to her old plantation
where her mother was able to nurse her back to health. She believed in
god but rejected the testament (Christianity). Was beaten by a heavy metal
weight and caused epileptic seizures, mean headaches and powerful
visions.
ESCAPE FROM SLAVERY
Her owner past away and his relatives were to decide her fate, liberty or
death, of course she couldnt wait therefore she escaped using underground
railroads and common routes for fleeing slaves.
CONTRIBUTIONS
Used her wages to fund raids. One raid freed 9 slaves. Saved a fugitive
slave, Charles Nalle. Led 3 union gunboats in the American Civil War(1863),
Cobahee River, which freed 700 slaves in South Carolina. Also nursed many
wounded slaves.
