Persons
4. Original
Nakedness

5. The Nuptial Meaning of the Body

6. The Freedom of the Gift

Kawangis ng Diyos -
Image of God
= hindi lang sa ating
talino at free will

= sa kakayahan nating
makaalam at mamimili

= kundi sa kakayahan nating

pangunahan ang
ating sarili
Kawangis ng Diyos -
Image of God

Original
Solitude

= alone as the only

rational creature on earth

= sa kanyang
pansariling kaalaman,
alam niyang nilikha
siya ng Diyos at hindi
siya Diyos
Original
Solitude

= alam din niyang hindi

siya tulad ng mga hayop

= kaya rin niyang pumili

ng mabuti at ng masama
Original
Solitude = siya lang
ang may
kakayahang
pagyamanin
at
pangunahan
ang
kalupaang
ibinigay ng
Diyos sa
kanya

= he is alone without the woman, without

another human
person
= concept of original solitude includes both self-consciousness and
self-determination
Original Unity as seen in
Genesis 2:23-24

= .dahil dito, iiwan ng lalaki ang kanyang

ama at ina, at pipisan sya sa kanyang
maybahay, at silay magiging isang laman.

= man only realizes his essence of

being a person by existing deeply
and completely for someone

= The communion of persons

means existing in a mutual for in a
relationship of mutual gift.
Original Nakedness

= lack of shame meant they

received each other as a gift and
sought only to give themselves to
one another, not use the other.

= they beheld the other with

Gods eyes, who saw everything
he had made, and behold, it was
very good (Gen. 1:31)
Original Nakedness

= they read in each

others body, which
was a sign of the other
person, a language of
love, which each
welcomed and
reciprocated

= the ability of the body to show us our call to love is the

nuptial / spousal / conjugal meaning of the body (community-
communion)
The Nuptial Meaning of
the Body
= God created man and woman in such a way that through their
bodies it would be self-evident to them that they are called to love,
called to give themselves to one another

= the very purpose and meaning of life is

found by becoming a gift to another.
The Nuptial Meaning of
the Body

= we fulfill the reason for our

existence by loving- accomplished
and fulfilled by our physical bodies
made precisely to show this.

= the body alone is capable of making

visible what is invisible : the spiritual and
the divine ; made to be the sign of Gods
love
The Freedom of
the Gift
= originally, Adam and Eve were only
concerned with loving one another;
they did not act from self-seeking
motivations but freely gave to the
other out of love

= the interior freedom of the

gift the disinterested gift of
oneself
Purity of
Heart
= You shall not commit adultery. But I say to
you that everyone who looks at a woman
1. lustfully has already committed adultery with
Adultery her in his heart.
in the
Heart -
= Lust itself (more exactly: looking
at lustfully} is defined as adultery
committed in the heart
Purity of
Heart
2.Shame = man
and woman began to
look at each other not
only as a person to be
loved but as an object
to be used.

= The break in their

relationship with God also
caused a break in their
relationship with each
other
Purity of
Heart
Shame
= Complete and total trust
and self-gift were replaced with
shame

= Only the nakedness that makes woman an

object for man, or vice versa , is a source of shame.
Purity of
Heart = is disordered sexual desire , desiring the other as an
object for his
own pleasure, to use the other
3. = lust of the body is a specific threat to the structure of
Lust self-control and
self-mastery
= has three forms : Lust of flesh, of the eyes,
pride of life

4.
Concupiscen
= battle of the flesh against the
ce
spirit (associated with the lust of
the flesh)
Purity of
Heart
5. The = where we experience disorder as
Heart well as trust

= we must keep our heart under

control to be more fully, a real gift for
another person

6.
Redemptio
= power of the death and
nresurrection of Christ which
truly gives us the power to
live as we were intended to
live in the beginning
Purity of
Heart

= True purity sees in each and every person, in the

7. spirit and the
Purity body, Gods image

= desires only
to love and
never to use
the other
III.St. Pauls Teaching on the Human
Body
: Life according to the Spirit

= After sin, body and spirit

oppose each other, the
three-fold lust often wins
against the Spirit

= Life according to the flesh involves

the death of the Spirit which is what
is meant by mortal sin. Those who do
the works of the flesh will not inherit
the kingdom (Gal 5:21)
III.St. Pauls Teaching on the Human
Body
: Life according to the Spirit
= Purity allows for controlling the
body in holiness and honor.
Abstinence and control overcomes
the flesh for the sake of the Spirit.

= the body is called to be the

temple of the Holy Spirit.

= Because of the indwelling of God in the person, mans body is not

his own. The body therefore is not meant for immorality but for
the Lord and the Lord for the body
WORKS OF
=
ART
the problem of the naked body is not just
aesthetic, but moral
When does human nakedness become pornographic or
pornovision?
a. When personal sensitivity with regard to the human body is
overstepped
b. When in art or media the right to privacy of the person in
masculinity
c. Whenorthe
femininity is violated
deep governing rules of the gift of mutual donation
inscribed in
masculinity and femininity toward the communion of
persons is violated
= The truth about man and the
meaning of his body creates precise
limits that are unlawful to exceed.
These limits must be recognized and
respected by artists who make the body
the object, model or subject of art;
otherwise, the values of the human body
can be distorted and destroyed in mans
IV.MARRIAGE and Celibacy in light
of the
resurrection of the body
= there is no marrying or giving in marriage in
heaven, for they cannot die anymore, because they
are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons
of the resurrection.
= Marrying and giving in marriage is
bound exclusively to this age there
will be masculinity and femininity but a
different purpose to its generative
purpose

= The resurrection refers not just to

the recovery of corporeity and integral
human life of body and soul but to a
completely new state of human life. (a
new harmonious submission of the
body to spirit)
V. Virginity or celibacy for the
sake of the
kingdom

= is not a command but a

gift

= Christ chose it for himself

not because it is not
expedient to marry, but for
the kingdom
V. Virginity or celibacy for the
sake of the
kingdom
= This continence for the kingdom allows
man to fulfill himself differently and
more than through matrimony, becoming
a true gift toward others.

= man in freely choosing to respond to the

gift of continence, renounces the divinely-
instituted goods of marriage, procreation
and children. Breaking away from these
goods for the Kingdom involves self-
sacrifice, which then extends to the
community, including parents.
VI. The Sacramentality of
Marriage based on
Ephesians 5:22-23
= Be subject to one another out of
reverence for Christ. Wives be subject to
your husbands, as to the Lord

= JP2 makes it very clear

that the wifes being
subject to the husband
does not mean that she is
dominated by him. It might
even be argued that the
husbands task is harder
since he is commanded to
die for his wife as Christ
died for the Church.
VII. Reflections on Humanae Vitae
= the marital act by its very nature, as God created it, both
unites the couple and is open to life.

= contraception denies
the procreative aspect
and therefore the integral
truth of the act itself
(rejection of the other
through the rejection of
his or her fertility.)
VII. Reflections on
Humanae Vitae
Responsibl

Planning

= Man is precisely a person because he is master of

himself and has self-control. Indeed insofar as he is
master of himself he can give himself to the other.
