Casey Foulkes is a 23 year old
female.

She called her PCP for an urgent


appointment.

She complains of a strong,


persistent desire to urinate, a
burning sensation during
urination, lower back pain, and a
low-grade fever.
Macroscopic Analysis

A macroscopic analysis showed that Caseys urine is a dark


yellow color that almost appeared green. Her urine was also
cloudy. Dark and cloudy are abnormal traits of urine which
can indicate a health problem.
Chemical Analysis
pH 8.o (maximum value of normal range)

Specific Gravity 1.005 (normal)

Protein - (normal)

Glucose 100(5) (higher than normal)

Ketones 160(16)++++ (extremely high)


Same value for all other samples, including the control sample

After testing again for ketones with a different strip, the results showed no
Microscopic Analysis
No erythrocytes found

Leukocytes and crystals were found during a microscopic analysis

of her urine.

This is abnormal, and can be a cause of her cloudy urine.

Burning sensation during urination

Frequent or intense urge to urinate

Pain or pressure in lower abdomen or back

Cloudy, dark, bloody, or strange-smelling urine

Tired or shaky

Fever or chills- can be a sign of the infection reaching the


kidney

be the cause of a UTI.

A UTI does not affect any other

Confirming Diagnosis
Grow bacteria from urinary tract

Create images of urinary tract

Use a scope to view urinary tract


Possible Treatments
Antibiotics

Pain medication

Increase water consumption
