burn the organic and inorganic substances

Based on the same principle as COD

Carried out in a Pt-catalyzed combustion chamber

Sample to be tested is heated in the chamber and the

oxidizable matter is converted to stable oxides
This causes momentary depletion O2 concentration in N2
carrier gas stream which is recorded by a detector

The generated peak is compared with standard calibrated

TOD peaks to give the TOD for the sample taken

The test can be carried out rapidly and results have been
correlated with COD
