WHAT IS MEDICAL IMAGING

Medical imaging is the visualization

of body parts, tissues, or organs, for
use in clinical diagnosis, treatment
and disease monitoring
It uses various procedures for that
purpose including radiology, nuclear
radiation and EM waves radiation
How EM waves are
produced
EM waves are produced by
constantly changing electric and
magnetic fields being perpendicular
to each other.
These waves travel with the speed of
light
High voltage source is required to
produce these EM waves
EM WAVES USED IN MEDICAL
IMAGING
X-RAYS
ULTRA-SONIC WAVES
GAMMA RAYS
RADIO WAVES
X-RAYS
Most common technique
X-rays are produced when high energy
electrons strike a metal like copper so these
electrons approach to the nucleus of atom
hence decreasing their energy, forming X-
rays.
X-RAY beams are absorbed by the body parts
depending upon the density of material.
Used to show broken
bones,cavities,lungs,blood vessels etc.

ULTRASONIC RAYS
Ultrasoundorultrasonographyis
amedical imagingtechnique that uses high
frequency sound waves and their echoes.
The sound wavestravelinto your body and
hit a boundary between tissues
The reflected waves are picked up by the
probe and relayed to the machine
The machinedisplaysthe distances and
intensities of the echoes on the screen,
forming a two dimensional image

MEDICAL RESONANCE IMAGING
(MRI)
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) uses
a large magnet, radiofrequencies (pulses
of radio wave energy) and a computer to
produce 3D images.
MRI is used to image soft tissue such as
the brain, joints and vascular system.
This technology provides high quality
diagnostic images for every region of the
body.

HARMFUL EFFECTS ON
BODY
Additional exposure to these rays can
cause cancer
Excessive heating can cause various
tissue infections
Also cause cell damages
Can cause various spots on the body
