BACK TRANSLATION

Back Translation is the process of

translating a document that has
already been translated into a foreign
language back to the original language
without consulting the original
document.
PROCEDURE
OF
BACK
TRANSLATION
The process of back translation first includes
the initial translation from original language
into the target language by one translator.
The target translation is then translated back
into original language by a separate translator
independent of the project and with no prior
knowledge to make sure that the original
language has been properly translated into the
foreign language.
Original and back translated documents can
then be compared.
USAGE
Just as we may calculate the inverse
operation to confirm the product in
mathematics, in translation we rely on
back-translations as a tool to test
faithfulness to the original document.
Back translations are an extremely useful
tool in ensuring that the proper meaning of
the text has been conveyed.
It also adds an additional level of quality
check to a document translation.
