Instead of going to a safe educated environment and being
worried about your academics. You have to be worried about
being safe at school because all of the violence that is
associated with attending a school.
Inner-city schools have more violence associated within the
students, that is why they have metal detectors unlike other
schools of higher economic statuses that do not have to worry
about it.
Although the majority of the population of the United States
attend schools that are not of high budget and are in urban
areas.

Therefore many parents and students are concerned about their


safety at school. Instead of being concentrated on their
academics they are worrying about their surroundings. When

The Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990 made it unlawful
for any individual knowingly to posses a firearm at a
place that he knew or had reasonable cause to believe
was a school zone. Alfonso Lopez, Jr. a 12th grade
student carried a concealed and loaded handgun into his
high school and was arrested and charged under Texas
law with firearm possession on school premises. The next
day, the state charges were dismissed after federal
agents charged Lopez with violating the Act.
The District Court denied Lopezs motion to dismiss the
indictment, concluding that the GFSZA was a
constitutional exercise of Congress power pursuant to
the
Commerce Clause of Article I. The Fifth Circuit re
versed, holding that the Act exceeded Congress po
wer under the Commerce Clause and was therefore un
constitutional. The Supreme Court granted cert.
