Cincinnati State was founded on
the principle that education occurs
best when classroom instruction is
reinforced by related work
experience acquired through
cooperative education.
What is Co-op? What is Internship?
Main goal of Co-op and Internship is
helping make students marketable in
their chosen career path.
AND
Successfully complete 2 or 4 credits of Co-op/Internship credits.
Prerequisites to Co-op
Completion of Academic Foundations Coursework
Accepted to the Degree Program
Either Completion of Co-op Pre Course or Currently
Enrolled as required by your academic degree program
GPA Requirement of 2.0 and Must Be Maintained
Throughout Co-op
Some Academic Programs Have Their Own Prerequisite
Courses, such as ENG 101.
Students should ask your Co-op Coordinator
Meet with Co-op Coordinator, Submit Co-op Application via
CState CareerLink, and Submit an Electronic Copy of your
Resume to the Co-op Coordinator
The Co-op Pathway has Options to
Allow for Completion of Requirements

Seminars, Special Project or
Course Substitution

Co-op Employment
This is the traditional way to complete the Co-op Requirement
Gaining paid work experience related to a students academic
program
Benefits to Student
Exposes the student to workplace and career options
Promotes professionalism and increases career opportunities after
graduation
Applies classroom learning in a real-world setting
Students Earn as they learn to offset the cost of education
Helps clarify career goals
Students who have completed a Co-op Placement have a greater success
at completing their degree
Searching for a Co-op
Co-op is a competitive job search
Employers
Post opportunities with Co-op Coordinators on Campus
Coordinators refer resumes to Employers for Review and Selection
Coordinators work with Employers to Schedule Interviews
Employers Interview and Make Final Selection of Candidate
Students
Students need to have a resume prepared
Student need to be prepared to interview
Students need to be available to interview with Employers
Two Types of Co-op
Full-time
Requires at least 32 + hours of work per week
May or may not include other course work during the semester
Earns 2 academic credits in one semester
Part-time
Requires at least 20 - 31 hours of work per week
Combines work and other course work during the semester
Earns 1 academic credit in one semester
Do I Automatically Get Placed in A
Co-op?
These typically take about 30 minutes. Some of the goals of a site visit
include:
Reviewing what you are learning at your workplace.
What are future goals/expectations of your training and growth as a professional?
And, other general information on your employment with the organization.
The Co-op Coordinators will contact students and/or supervisors via e-mail
to arrange a time that is mutually beneficial to all parties. Or, they will stop
in to see if available.
Alternative Options for
